Description

NOTE: LOCATION CHANGE. We all love talking about ourselves! But it’s easy to get lost in the forest of the self! How do we craft a memoir that others will care to read? What strategies lift the details of our ordinary lives into something extraordinary? Judy will discuss creating scenes vs. summary, pushing description, characterizing, reflecting, taking leaps, introducing contradiction, creating tension, deciding on structure — things you need to know when you write memoir and any creative nonfiction. Class will include instruction, exercises to help you discover your most potent material, and sharing with the class your responses to the exercises. For beginners and experienced writers alike. This class meets on three Thursdays, September 30, October 7 and 14, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
